Mallow
Malva sylvestris
The green parts of this plant have a sweet flavour and a large content of vitamins which is why in Antiquity the Mallow was a popular addition to salads.
In Greece, Wild Mallow is often cultivated in flowepots on balconies.
Mallow flowers and leaves are used against respiratory infections, throat inflammation, hoarseness, expectoration difficulties, stomach and duodenum ulcers, digestive problems, reproductive system, eye and throat inflammations.
The flowers contain 0,5-6% of slime. They also contain anthocyanin glycoside, organic acids and minerals.
Mallow may be used for treating babies and newborns*.
