Name – History – Mythology
Stevia originates from Central and South America. It has been used for at least 1500 years by the Guarani Indians. It has adapted perfectly to the Mediterranean climate, even though it is a modern cultivation which is increasing in popularity.
Stevia is a sweetener used in many products instead of sugar.
Properties – Use:
Stevia leaves contain steviol glycosides which are responsible for its sweet taste. Stevia is much sweeter than sugar, but has no calories and does not cause tooth decay.
Stevia is an excellent sweetener for diabetics.
Research shows that the consumption of Stevia does not increase blood sugar levels.
It has antibacterial and antifungal properties.
