In Antiquity, it was among the most important herbs of a wartime pharmacy.<\/p>\n

In Greece, a St. John’s Wort oil on the basis of olive oil has been produced since ancient times. It is effective in the treatment of wounds and as an ointment against rheumatic pains. This oil was the basic medicine of the Spartans.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>Properties \u2013 Use:<\/b><\/p>\n

It grows in sunny places. St. John’s Wort is effective aganst cramps of the smooth muscle of the digestive tract, bile ducts, and blood vessels.<\/p>\n

Its large quantities of tannins and flavonoids\u00a0 seal small blood vessels.<\/p>\n

St. John’s Wort\u00a0 also has antibacterial properties when used both internally and externally when applied to the skin.<\/p>\n

Presently, St. John’s Wort preparations as most commonly used against mild depression and lowered mood.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>Suggestions:<\/b><\/p>\n

Should be avoided during pregnancy.<\/p>\n

While taking St. John’s Wort preparations, sun exposure should be avoided, especially in the Summer, in order to prevent sunburn and sunstroke, as this herb increases light- sensitivity.<\/p>\n

Should not be consumed together with Valerian or sedatives.<\/p>\n
